Our eyes are one of the most delicate organs of our bodies. They are at work more than ever, considering the fact we use our eyes to see, learn and stare at the smallest things. The continuous use of our eyes leads to fatigue. It also puts us at risk for age-related eye problems. If we’re willing to overcome a diminished eyesight, we can follow these natural eye care tips to strengthen our vision:
Eat The Right Food
There’s actually a special variety of foods that aid vision. Our eyes require energy in the form of multiple nutrients to continue functioning properly. Vitamins A, C, E, and minerals like copper and zinc are critical to sustaining our eyesight. Antioxidants such as beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin obtained from food such as dark leafy greens, eggs, carrots and potatoes help protect the eyes from sun damage.
There are also ways to prevent cataract formation and one of the natural ways is to consume a diet rich in sulfur, lecithin and cysteine (found in garlic, shallots, onions and capers). These nutrients protect the lens of our eyes from potential diseases, as aforementioned.
If we’re looking to improve our vision we can increase our intake of blueberries, goji berries and blackberries which all consist of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help improve our vision. In addition, consuming cold-water fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel enables the production of structural cell membranes responsible for boosting eye health.
Exercise Your Eyes
Just like any part of our bodies, our eyes also deserve respite from constant functioning. Exercising the eyes means allowing it to relax the muscles and release stress and fatigue. These simple exercises help maintain proper vision. They’re best performed in the morning time, before bedtime, and every time after an intense use of vision. If we commit to daily practice, we can yield healthy results in a month’s time.
– Rub both palms against one another to create heat and then place the hands under the eyes allowing the heat to transfer. Repeat this step 3 times.
– Circle the eyes clockwise 10 times and then repeat this step in an anti-clockwise motion.
– Hold an object at arm’s length with the eyes focused on it and then slowly bring the object closer. Repeat this step 10 times.
– Using the thumb knuckles massage the temples in small circles, repeat this step 20 times in each direction (clockwise and anti-clockwise)
– Give the eyes adequate sleep on daily basis
Get a Vision Aid
Once our eyes have gone bad, we need to make sure our prescription number doesn’t increase. We can do this by wearing appliances that relieve our eyes of squinting. It is best to have our eyes regularly examined in order to avoid a constant feeling of fatigue. Often times, we’re not able to tell our visions have diminished. In the beginning our eyes only undergo minimal weakness which we tend to overlook. We should avoid doing this and seek regular eye checkups through highly experienced opticians. An optician would best guide us towards improving or restoring vision.
